A History of Blues Guitar
From the beginning guitarist to the advanced student of guitar, blues guitar lessons can make up an important part of your daily practice routine. Blues is the musical style brought forth from the Deep South of America, by African-American pioneers as far back as the early 1900's. Acoustic Blues guitar playing was the sole musical style aside from Gospel that rang in Southern America.
The earliest form of Blues, the "Dallas Blues" and "Memphis Blues," were actually 12-bar progressions, with a lyric line repeated four times, and a change in the third bar. This repetition was necessary to get the point across, especially since the Blues were usually in the form of a sad ordeal or story.
Much of the Blues recorded in the 1920s had to do with the society that African-Americans lived in. Hardship and suffering became the backbone of many Blues numbers written and recorded. Sometimes Acoustic Blues guitars were hand-made instead of purchased, leading to distinctive sounds in this genre. Blues guitar lessons will help you get the feel of those difficult times the writer had in mind, as well as reproduce the sound and melody.
Blues are usually written in a 4/4 time signature. A good Blues guitar lesson teacher will take you through the fret board fingering, or tablature, one step at a time.
